Section and row control is the precision feature with the easiest ROI to prove — automatic shutoff that stops planting or spraying where the machine has already covered, so point rows, waterways, and odd field shapes don’t get double-applied. The savings in seed and chemical are real, repeatable, and simple to put in a grower’s own numbers.
What it does and why it pays
As the machine crosses ground it’s already covered — the overlap on a point row, the wedge on an angled headland, the strip beside a waterway — section control shuts off sprayer sections and row control shuts off planter rows automatically, and turns them back on at the boundary. That eliminates the double-application that otherwise wastes seed and chemical and can even hurt yield (double-planted rows compete). On irregular fields the overlap adds up fast, and the input savings often pay the feature back in a season or two.

It rides on accurate guidance and mapping
Section control only works as well as the position under it — it needs accurate guidance and correction to know precisely where the machine is and where it’s already been, plus field boundary and coverage mapping. Sell or set it up without the accuracy and mapping to support it and the shutoffs are sloppy, leaving skips or overlaps it was supposed to prevent. The feature and the correction signal go together.
The easy ROI conversation
This is the precision feature to demonstrate in dollars: estimate the overlap percentage on the customer’s fields (higher on small, irregular, terraced, or waterway-heavy ground), multiply by their seed and chemical cost per acre, and the annual savings usually make the case on its own. It’s honest, specific, and in the grower’s numbers — exactly how precision should be sold.
Where it goes wrong
